South West\u00a0Queensland is larger than the State of Victoria (based on area) and has a population of\u00a024,000, spread out across a number of towns and villages.\u00a0The region has a strong economy bolstered by a diversified\u00a0agriculture\u00a0industry and\u00a0a\u00a0booming resource sector.\u00a0The region is well connected with\u00a0six municipal airports, various national highways,\u00a0rail\u00a0and some of the fastest download speeds in regional Australia.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

There has been considerable underinvestment in housing across the\u00a0South West\u00a0region over the last decade, resulting in a local market with high demand and a complete lack of stock. Residential vacancy rates across the region range\u00a0from\u00a00% to 1.7% over the last year, demonstrating a chronic lack of housing.1<\/sup>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Serviced residential land is plentiful and affordable, costing between $2,000 and $25,000 per block.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

There is strong demand for housing across the region, stemming from local businesses expanding and seeking to hire additional staff as well as from\u00a0a number of\u00a0government agencies that require housing for their growing staff numbers. The Queensland Police Force, Department of Health,\u00a0Department of\u00a0Education\u00a0and numerous local governments all have new staff requirements and need housing for them.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mayor of\u00a0Paroo\u00a0Shire, Suzette Beresford<\/a> said, \u201cCouncil is looking for houses, the police force\u00a0is looking for houses, the health services\u00a0are also looking;\u00a0we all need housing to support our growing workforce.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

A recent study has identified that there\u00a0is demand for over 600 new residential dwellings in the region over the next three years.2<\/sup>\u00a0A variety of housing and various sizes are required, ranging from\u00a01-2 bedroom\u00a0units to 3-4 bedroom homes.\u00a0The local governments alone require 42 new dwellings and have an additional 82 that require considerable renovation and\/or complete redevelopment.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

In\u00a0the last\u00a012\u00a0months, over $41 million has been invested across a range of infrastructure projects including transport, agriculture,\u00a0tourism\u00a0and telecommunications that will continue to support strong growth into the future.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mayor Beresford said, \u201cThe region has invested significantly in\u00a0infrastructure,\u00a0and we have a great lifestyle to offer everyone.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
